Robert H. Crane has had a wild ride and it is reflected in his art.

Robert was born in Southern California but moved with his family to New Mexico when he was 7. He eventually made his way back to California- guided by his love of music. He had success in the music business as a bass player and vocalist by means of radio play, awards, movie soundtracks and headlining some of the most well known venues in Los Angeles such as The Troubadour, The Roxy and Whiskey a Go Go. Robert even had a billboard for Gazzari’s on the Sunset Strip! Those were the “Hair Band” days

and we have pictures. ☺

Robert managed to receive his associates degree with honors at a small college in California during that time.

After brief jobs as a garbage collector and survey technician, Robert kind of fell into a job cleaning up a welding shop to make ends meet. He went from cleaning it, to becoming a welder’s apprentice, to managing crews within a few short years.

After deciding that he needed a change, Robert left California to see where life would take him. That change came in the way of expressing himself through metal art. Robert has been welding for over four decades now, and his work speaks for itself. He is keenly aware of what metal can do and pushes it’s limits with his art.

By contrast, his woodworking is relatively new. During the end

of winter 2019, Robert picked up a piece of firewood and was inspired to carve it. That spark has grown into another creative outlet for his art. Yes, the wood carvings you see are among

his very first!

Roberts’ artwork has been shown in galleries predominately in the Southwest. His beautiful and detailed pieces have made their way into a number of private collections across the country.

Robert plays in a band called “Shakedown,” and performs at casinos, bars and special events around the Southwest. Whenever he’s not working on his sculptures, you will probably find him with

a guitar in his hands.

“My artwork is an extension of myself. I feel such passion as I’m creating. I truly love what I do, but, as an artist, it’s especially validating to hear all the positive feedback.”
